Santa Monica Museum of Art's 7th Annual Art Exhibition and Benefit Sale

A vibrant group of 800 artists, first-time collectors, and seasoned art buyers lined up last Saturday afternoon in anticipation of INCOGNITO, SMMoA's legendary art exhibition and benefit sale. At 7 pm sharp the crowd dashed into the gallery; some were on the lookout for artists they might recognize, while others trusted their instincts to purchase works that caught their eye. This year's INCOGNITO was a huge success. An unprecedented $310,000 was raised in support of the museum's exhibitions, education, and outreach programs.

SMMoA sold 600 works by local and international artists for only $300 each. The guests eagerly waited to discover the names behind their choices, as artist identities were revealed only after purchase. Among the many participating artists were John Baldessari, Mark Bradford, Simone Forti, Mary Kelly, Ed Moses, Raymond Pettibon, Michael Queenland, Ed Ruscha, Jennifer Steinkamp, Mickalene Thomas, and Pae White.

At the museum’s shop GRACIE was a beautiful array of artist designed jewelry from Alloy Gallery, Rhode Island. Outside the museum, guests danced to the lively selections of DJs Enorbito and Ganas of Mas Exitos. An abundant buffet by Lene satisfied the palette, while cocktails by Patron and wine from Malibu Family Wines flowed from the bars. 

Guests included Justin Chatwin, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, Shanola Hampton, Florian Henckel von Donnersmark, Emmy Rossum, Amy Smart, and Jesse Williams.
