Cause for Creativity is SMMoA's highly acclaimed workshop series in which the museum encourages people to “make art and make a difference.”

Past Cause for Creativity workshops have inspired participants to make re-useable shopping bags; raise their awareness on the global water crisis; and brought shoes to children in third-world countries.

Cause for Creativity is sponsored by HBO, Nordstrom, and the City of Santa Monica

Park Studio takes interdisciplinary art education outside museum walls and into the community. This free program is held annually during the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District's spring break. Contemporary artists lead workshops, art history lessons, and field trips to cultural sites. Park Studio is open to middle and high school students residing or attending school in Santa Monica. SMMoA presents this program in partnership with the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Department and the Thelma Terry Center at Virginia Avenue Park.

To participate in Park Studio, you must be a middle or high school student residing or attending a school in the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District. Students enrolled at Santa Monica's Olympic High School may receive a full semester credit toward a high school diploma.

Park Studio is funded, in part, by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Community Access and Participation grants and the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation.
